Lupercalia

Valentine's Day/Lupercalia

Here at Undead Necropolis we don't offer traditional Valentine gifts, we offer a more ancient and more morbid gift of blood and howls..It's called Lupercalia! In the modern day we mixing chocolate and blood and holding a similar practice based off of the ancient Pagan rituals that took place. No we are not killing animals and whipping women with their parts. We are celebrating the time of the wolf or the Werewolf in particular, because it is the day the Goddess Luperca the She -Wolf. Luperca is a woman who mostly appears in a wolf form and she is known for nurturing Romulus and Remus as babies after they were thrown into a river (Tiber) in a basket. As they grew older they decided to found there own town near a cave named Lupercal, however problems arose and Romulus killed Remus. The new town was now named in honor of Romulus which is now present day Rome and the She- Wolf Luperca is also regarded as Rome's stepmother. Unto this very day we still hold practices that is centered around purification and fertility..Though nowadays we have chocolate and currently there isn't any blood whippings. Now that doesn't mean blood and chocolate won't mix.

Afterwards people started to hold strange celebrations beginning with animal sacrifices which would usually consist of dogs and female goats. Fertility rites began with high ranking men of the village striking ranking women with the sacrificed animal parts to ensure fertility and to make sure child birth among women would happen. Drinking and partying would also be constant among the village, while people were also told to act as wolves. Later on Christian leaders tried to Christianize of course but it still remains etched in history as Lupercalia, a time which was celebrated from the 13 to the 15th of February. So to all of you modern day Werewolves or Therians and even all other children of darkness have a feast and enjoy yourselves. Here is a snippet from the Master of the Macabre himself Vincent Price.
